About Sandy Jocoy
I am a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist practicing in Woodland Hills and Westlake Village, California. I provide psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, adolescents, and groups looking to improve their quality of life and strengthen their relationships. My approach to therapy is rooted in the assumption that people possess the resources for positive growth. Using the therapeutic relationship, my clinical training, and life experience, I help people identify and overcome the obstacles that prevent them from realizing their emotional, behavioral, spiritual, and relational goals.
I graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I completed my Master’s Degree with honors in Marriage and Family Therapy from Phillips Graduate Institute. My graduate work included a specialization in co-occurring disorders and family systems, and my Master’s thesis was on forgiveness therapy. While working as an intern at the California Family Counseling Center, I gained experience working with children, high-risk youth, individuals, couples, and families, and obtained extensive training and experience helping people overcome the effects of alcohol, drug, and sex addiction issues.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Patrick Carnes, I am trained and certified in the evidence-based assessment and treatment of sex addiction and the impact of sex addiction-induced trauma on the partners/spouses through the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I have completed all training and am certified in EMDR and Attachment-Focused EMDR, and am working toward certification in the Trauma Resiliency Model, all of which enable me to provide evidence-based therapy for the effective treatment of critical incident and relational trauma.
Along with providing non-judgmental and respectful psychological services to people of all faiths, genders, and sexual orientations, I have specific education to incorporate Christian counseling services for those clients seeking to implement their Christian faith beliefs into the therapeutic process.
In addition to my professional education and training, I have over 38 years in 12 step experience and addiction recovery. My husband and I have been married for almost 40 years, and we have raised three children, all contributing to my qualifications to work in family therapy and addiction. I also teach in various Addiction Programs, some of which include Phillips Graduate University and Pierce College, and enjoy the opportunity to work with new therapists as a Clinical Supervisor. I am often invited to give presentations to churches on the issues of sexual integrity and marital infidelity recovery.
