What I Treat

Well known Holocaust survivor, neurologist, and psychiatrist Viktor E. Frankl states “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” My personal and clinical experience has led me to believe that he is correct. Change begins with a challenge; continues with action; and it accelerates with accountability. It is very difficult to make changes in isolation. I know this because I’ve tried. This is why I take a collaborative approach to therapy, so that the therapeutic process is customized to the specific and unique characteristics of each person, their circumstances, and their choices and goals.

Using the therapeutic relationship and competency in a variety of tools and interventions such as CSAT & CPTT, EMDR, PIT, TRM, IFS, CBT, and DBT, I am able to help you get to the root of the obstacles preventing you from living a more fulfilling emotional, spiritual, and relational life. Whether you struggle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), betrayal trauma, anxiety, depression, Bi-Polar Disorder, fear, compulsive behavior, addiction issues, relationship issues, or just a general lack of well-being and contentment in life, I believe I can help you meet your therapeutic goals. If I can’t, I will help you find someone who can.

Below are brief descriptions of the above certifications and interventions I use in my practice to treat trauma. The below interventions are used for both individual, couple and group work:

  • CSAT & CPTT: As a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, I have completed over 150 hours of education, training, and supervision in the effective assessment and treatment of sex addiction and sex addiction induced trauma. Using a number of different interventions, I am able to support a client’s recovery from crisis to restoration. As a Certified Partner Trauma Therapist, I am also able to provide services to partners of sex addicts, which includes the processing of the traumatic impact of discovery or disclosure, helping with developing appropriate boundaries, processing the grief and loss, and rebuilding trust and intimacy.

  • EMDR: Eye-Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing is an evidence based practice used to treat the impact of both critical incident and relational trauma. It utilizes cognitive, emotional, and somatic processes to help clear the trauma from the body to improve or alleviate symptoms.

  • PIT: Post Induction Therapy was developed by Pia Mellody and address early childhood trauma and relational wounding through the use of inner child work. The premise of Post Induction Therapy is that childhood trauma, which includes abuse, neglect, abandonment and enmeshment is the origin of developmental immaturity. Her inner child work is greatly effective in addressing the underlying symptoms of developmental trauma, codependency, and intimacy disorders.

  • TRM: The Trauma Resiliency Model is a somatic (in the body) intervention that promotes the resolution and processing of distressing feelings, while also strengthening and supporting a person’s capacity to be more resilient against further stressors. TRM works by helping the client to regulate their Central Nervous System by expanding their resilient zone to produce a greater sense of control over their emotions and stress.

  • IFS: Internal Family Systems is an experiential intervention that helps people unburden themselves of extreme beliefs, meanings, emotions, and urges that they may not know they even have, and empowers them to live their life from a place of confidence and compassion.

  • CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is also an evidence-based practice that works with a person’s thought and behavioral processes to support change. CBT is a common intervention used to effectively treat addiction issues.

  • DBT: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is an evidence based practice to helps people to regulate big feelings and unwanted impulsive behaviors.
